The PlayStation Blog has announced the minimum and recommended PC requirements for God Of War Ragnarök, and there’s a bittersweet mixture of good news and bad news. Let’s get the worst news out of the way first: God Of War Ragnarök, a single-player game which you’ll be playing on PC, will require a PlayStation Network account.
This is obviously problematic for roughly 60-percent of the world’s countries where PlayStation Accounts do not exist. Perhaps there’s a shred of hope this requirement will be removed? Earlier this year, Sony was persuaded to axe the need for a PSN account to play Helldivers 2 on PC after a horde of fans review-bombed the game on Steam.
Then again, that wasn’t a first-party Sony title. But will history repeat?
OK, let’s clear any remaining negativity from the air before we move on to the good news. You’ll need to carve out a whopping 190GB of drive space to install God Of War Ragnarök; nearly double the storage requirement on the PS5.
Fortunately, things improve considerably from here. As you can see from the table above, a minimum gameplay experience of 1080p/30fps is achievable with a fairly budget-friendly setup. If you have an Nvidia GTX 1060 or better, and a Ryzen 3 1200 or better, you’re through the door. Generally speaking, a midrange PC from 8 years ago should fit the bill here.
If you want all the eyecandy and performance, however, you’ll need an Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti/Radeon RX 7900XT or better on the GPU side, and an Intel i5-11600K/AMD Ryzen 7 3700X on the CPU side. You’ll also need 16GB of memory.
What I’m really excited to see is the PC port supporting all 3 of the major GPU performance + frame-boosting technologies: Nvidia DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1, and Intel XeSS 1.3 are all showing up to the party, including any frame generation features utilizing the tech. For example, AMD FSR 3.1 coupled with Fluid Motion Frames 2 is certainly going to deliver a dramatic uplift in framerate.
This will be a fun one to benchmark, and I’m really hoping the game also snags Steam Deck Verified status. Will you be playing this despite the PSN account requirement?
