BJ’s Wholesale Club Names Anjana Harve Chief Information Officer

adminBy adminSeptember 12, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Big-box retailer BJ’s Wholesale Club on Monday announced Anjana Harve has joined the company as EVP and Chief Information Officer, effective immediately.

She will report to Chairman and CEO Bob Eddy and will serve as a member of BJ’s executive leadership team. She will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the company’s IT organization as it works to drive improved digital customer experience, optimize revenue growth and boost operating efficiencies.

Harve succeeds Scott Kessler, who joined Northeast Grocery as CIO earlier this year.

Harve most recently was the first-ever global CIO at Germany-based Fresenius Medical Care, a leading provider of products and services for those with renal diseases. She has also held technology leadership roles at medical tech provider Hil-Rom and pharmaceutical manufacturer Novartis, among other companies.

Harve “brings more than 25 years of experience driving innovative technology transformations and leading and inspiring high-performing teams,” Eddy said in a statement. “She will play a crucial role in further strengthening our technology to advance our long-term strategic growth priorities and deliver greater value for our members.”

BJ’s, headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts, notched more than $19 billion in revenues in its 2022 fiscal year. It operates 238 clubs and 168 gas stations across 19 states.

The company has noted digital convenience for shoppers as a strategic priority and said member appetite for digital platforms is growing. In its second quarter results, BJ’s said digitally enabled comparable sales grew 15% year-over-year to roughly 10% of net merchandise sales.

That growth was driven by initiatives including curbside pickup, same-day delivery, and buy online, pick up in club (BOPIC), as well as the company’s app and website. In the earnings call, Eddy noted that BJ’s is using technology to make BOPIC and curbside more efficient for team members and reduce the amount of time members must wait for their orders.

Harve holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering from Bangalore University and an MBA from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania.
