Business Lessons Learned From Beyonce And Taylor Swift

adminBy adminOctober 14, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Nothing has brought me more joy this past week than seeing the photo of Beyonce attending Taylor Swift’s premiere of Taylor’s Eras Tour movie debut. These two women are a great example of supporting one another, although they compete with each other.

Here are some of my key takeaways from observing these two.

You don’t have to tear someone else down to lift yourself up. As an executive coach to some top leaders, I often hear stories of peers trying to take one another down as they try to rise up in the organization. This “For me to win, you have to lose” attitude is wreaking havoc in organizations. Why can’t everyone be given a chance to have their moment in the sun?

Instead of looking for ways to crush your competition, consider looking for ways to support one another. Who knows, there may be a time when you’ll need this person to advocate on your behalf.

There’s enough glory to go around for everyone. Just because a colleague gets all the attention doesn’t mean you’re being forgotten. Celebrate their moment, and they’ll do the same for you.

Two heads are better than one. Beyonce and Taylor have their own fans, but when they come together, they can increase their visibility exponentially. Instead of cutting your competition out of the picture, seek ways to cross-pollinate your fan bases.

Talent trumps everything else. You’ve heard that saying, “All sizzle, no steak.” Both women are on fire and have the talent to back up their popularity. Instead of spending time politicking in your organization, look for ways to increase your skills so that you can achieve the level of top-tier talent.

Over-deliver. No one has ever left a Beyonce or Taylor Swift concert thinking, “Wow! That was a disappointment.” Both artists continuously exceed the expectations of their fans, which isn’t an easy thing to do in the entertainment world today. When faced with challenges at work, don’t just look for ways to get the work done. Instead, look for opportunities to make your boss your biggest fan—over-deliver!

Next up is the release of Beyonce’s film. We’ll undoubtedly see Taylor at the preview, cheering on her talented friend! Here’s to you doing the same the next time you have a chance to support one of your colleagues.
