Universities Team Up With edx To Offer Machine Learning, AI Bootcamps

adminBy adminJune 18, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

edX, the global online learning platform from 2U, Inc. is launching a Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence MicroBootCamp program in partnership with 12 American universities. The online program is designed to prepare technology professionals with core skills in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI).

As interest in AI and machine learning continues to increase in a broad array of areas, colleges and universities are seeking opportunities to quickly add relevant content to their catalogues either as degree programs or add-on curricula. The Machine Learning and AI MicroBootCamp was developed to meet some of this demand.

The program will initially be offered by 12 university partners including Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Southern Methodist University, The Ohio State University College of Engineering, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, University of Denver, University of Kansas Jayhawk Global, University of Central Florida, University of New Hampshire Professional Development & Training, University of Richmond, Michigan State University, University of Utah, and Arizona State University.

Enrollment is now open at edX.org, with the first cohorts slated to start in July 2023. The program is not intended for beginners. Proficiency in Python is recommended along with competence in mathematics, including linear algebra, statistics, and multivariable calculus. Work experience in programming is recommended, but not required.

The program is structured as a 10-week, project-based curriculum in which students will be exposed to several subjects, including supervised and unsupervised machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and other AI topics.

The interactive lessons are designed to provide real-world context, using a blend of text, graphics, and video materials, along with live instructor support, grading, and real-time learning assistant support.

Course work is self-paced and is estimated to require 8-10 hours per week. The sticker price for the program is listed at $3,499.

“AI and machine learning aren’t just buzzwords; they’re the rocket fuel propelling us into the future,” said Anant Agarwal, Founder of edX, Chief Platform Officer at 2U, in a news release. “At edX, we’re teaming up with premier university and industry partners, crafting top-tier, flexible programs that fast-track career readiness. Together, we’re turning learners into leaders in the AI landscape.”

In addition to the Machine Learning and AI MicroBootCamp program, edX has introduced five new ChatGPT open courses. The courses, which are free to audit, include Prompt Engineering and Advanced ChatGPT and ChatGPT for education, business, healthcare, and technology, coding and data.

“Skills like prompt engineering are key to making the most out of the AI programs and tools available today,” added Agarwal. “As AI continues to transform the way we work and learn, edX is committed to making education in this area accessible for everyone.”

edX was founded by Harvard and MIT in 2012 and was acquired by 2U in 2021 for $800 million. It partners with dozens of leading universities and companies to offer thousands of online courses, professional certificates, boot camps, credit-bearing micro credentials, and undergraduate and graduate degrees in programs that include technology, business, data science, healthcare, science, education, social work, and engineering. It estimates that enrollments in its various courses now top 100 million.
